Man with crossbow who threatened to kill Queen Elizabeth on Christmas 2021 pleads guilty

A man who had been arrested at her Windsor Castle residence of the late Queen Elizabeth with a loaded crossbow pleaded guilty in a London court today to an offense under the Treason Act and threatening to kill a monarch.

Jaswand Singh Chail, 21, admitted the charges at London’s Old Bailey after he was arrested wearing a hood, mask and gloves in the castle grounds in west London at around 8.00am. on Christmas Day 2021.

THE Elizabethwho passed away in September last year, was at the castle that day with her son and now King Charles and other close members of the royal family.

“Chile entered the protected areas at Windsor Castle after threatening to kill the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Fortunately the officers intervened and no one was injured,” said Nick Price, head of the Royal Prosecution Service’s Special Crime and Counter-Terrorism Branch. “It was a serious incident, but thankfully rare.”

“Chile had been planning the attack for months,” prosecutors said in an earlier hearing. When approached by a police officer Child said: “I’m here to kill the queen.”

Child appeared at today’s London court hearing via video link wearing a black jacket and spoke only to confirm his name and plead guilty to three counts of threatening to kill, possessing an offensive weapon and an offense under the Treason Act 1842.

Judge Jeremy Baker said he would announce Child’s sentence on March 31 and the court ordered the preparation of medical reports.

In 1981, Marcus Sargent was jailed for five years under the Treason Act after pleading guilty to firing live bullets at the Queen during the Trooping the Colour, held each year on the monarch’s official birthday, in central London .
