The Navy reported this Wednesday morning (9) that the Port Authority’s search and rescue team found a body in the Solimões River near the Port of Terra Preta, in Manacapuru, where a landslide occurred at the beginning of the week. The Fire Department was called and removed the body, which will be taken for forensic examination.
Although the city hall had released information that four people were missing, the chief delegate of the Manacapuru Police Station, Mauro Soares, reported that only two records were made at the police unit.
“To date, we have received two missing reports: from a male person, approximately 36 years old, and a minor, female, 6 years old,” said the delegate.
The examination that will be carried out on the body found by the Navy teams should clarify whether it is one of the missing.
The task force set up by the Government of Amazonas continues with its work to assist victims and dive and surface searches led by the Fire Department. The accident occurred on Monday afternoon (7) and work immediately began to analyze the collapsed structure. Ten people suffered minor injuries, eight were discharged and two remain hospitalized at the Lázaro Reis Regional hospital, in Manacapuru.
The Assistant Secretary of Civil Defense of Amazonas, Colonel Clóvis Araújo, highlighted the monitoring work carried out by the secretariat during the dry period.
“We are monitoring this not only here in Manacapuru, but throughout the state. We have already sent several letters and recommendations for them to pay attention and implement their contingency plans in relation to this phenomenon of fallen earth, which is a result of the weather conditions”, said the colonel.
