Manchester: Anti-feminist and transphobic Mayoral candidate sparks outrage with his campaign – Seeks to be elected as… first female mayor

Anti-feminist and right-wing candidate mayor of Manchester made a transgender “joke” as part of his election campaign. According to the PinkNews report, Nick Buckley claimed that he is trans and asked to be elected in the city as the first female mayor. On Sunday (October 15), Buckley took to X (formerly Twitter) to post about his election with the hashtag #TransRightsAreHumanRights.

He wrote to her: “We’ve never had a female mayor in Greater Manchester. Let me be the first”.

Buckley is running as an independent in the 2024 Manchester mayoral election. He previously ran for Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party in 2021, coming fifth behind two female candidates.

Buckley’s bid to become mayor of Greater Manchester centers on his desire to support “women: real women”, the term used by transphobes to exclude trans women from office, government positions and other high positions.

His social media posts are filled with anti-trans and misogynistic comments. In July 2023 he had made a post stating that “I keep telling people that ‘feminism’ is at the heart of the trans movement, but almost no one understands or wants to listen.”while at the same time in other posts on the X platform, he has attacked trans people with hate speech against them several times.

His comment was in response to a doctor who supports transgender people as “rejecting traditional harmful masculinity”.

In the past, he has attacked the LGBTQ+ community in general, as in August 2022, Buckley wrote: “Pride has reached the same position as feminism. They have the same rights as everyone else, but that’s not good enough for people.”.

She has also openly supported Kellie-Jay Keen, aka Posie Parker – an anti-transgender activist – who said she is “not a feminist but fighting to protect all real women”, and the post added: “Be Kelly, not a feminist”.

His general attitude towards human rights issues on the merits vindicates Home Office announcement of sharp rise in anti-transgender hate crime in 2022-2023as they rose by 11% in England and Wales.

In August last year, Buckley also posted a picture of Victoria’s Secret models and wrote: “And we wonder why women are extremely unhappy and on medication.”

“Feminism has removed their natural goals and made them oppressive and undesirable”.

It is worth noting that Rishi Sunak also argued some time ago that it was “common sense” that “a man is a man and a woman is a woman” and indeed during the Conservative Party Conference on October 4th. On the same wavelength, the Minister of Health stated that he will work for her denying transgender women access to the health systemwith Suella Braverman adding that they would like to ban sex offenders from being able to transition.

In an apparently tongue-in-cheek comment to PinkNews, Buckley denied using transphobic rhetoric, stating that he felt “solidarity with all my sisters fighting the patriarchy. We will not set women free around the world until we all identify as women and share their pain.”
