Manufacturing production unexpectedly falls 0.3% month-on-month in April

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) released UK manufacturing and industrial production data on Friday, and suggests that the recovery of the British industrial sector faltered in April.

Manufacturing production reached -0.3% month-on-month in April compared to the 1.5% expected and from the 2.1% seen in March, while total industrial production reached -1.3% compared to the 1.2% expected and 1.8% above.

On an annualized basis, UK manufacturing production figures reached 39.7% in April, falling short of expectations of 41.8%. Total industrial production increased 27.5% in the fourth month of the year compared to a reading of 30.5% expected.

On the other hand, the figures of the UK goods trade balance, which reached -10.958 billion pounds in April versus expectations of -12.1 billion pounds and from -11,710 million the previous month. The total trade balance (outside the EU) was £ 5,549 million in April compared to £ 6,548 million in the previous month.
