At least 10 migrants died today after the boat they were on capsized trying to cross the English Channel from France to Britain, newspaper La Voix du Nord said, with a major operation underway to save at least 50 people. French authorities said at least five people died in the wreck. A spokesman for the French coast guard said earlier that 10 people were in critical condition. The British Coastguard has not yet responded to a request for comment. In a sign of the seriousness of the situation, CNews television reported that outgoing French Interior Minister GĂ©rald Darmanin was expected to be at the scene of the rescue operation near Boulogne. A French-chartered ship, the Minck, spotted the boat with more than 60 people on board and rushed to help as soon as the migrant boat broke up, Rear Admiral Vaiso Etienne Bazio told AFP. Source: RES
