Maranhão investigates suspected case of monkeypox

Maranhão is the sixth Brazilian state to investigate a suspected case of monkeypox, the information was confirmed by the State Department of Health (SES) this Friday (10). The suspected case is a 30-year-old man, resident of São Luís, who was admitted to a municipal public health unit on June 8. The patient has no travel history.

According to the Health Department, the symptoms presented by the patient are fever, chills, headache, burning eyes, back pain and itchy lesions all over the body. He remains hospitalized and stable.

“CIEVS/MA and CIEVS São Luís continue with the epidemiological investigation and, in turn, the Central Laboratory of Public Health of Maranhão (Lacen/MA) started the analysis of patient samples”, said the government of Maranhão.

Until the night of this Friday (10), Brazil had a confirmed case of monkeypox, in the city of São Paulo. In total, there are at least eight suspected cases of the disease.
