Marathon Digital Unable to Restore Mining Activity After Severe Storm

The American mining company Marathon Digital reported that it has been unable to restore the operation of 75% of the equipment for two weeks after a strong storm that took place on June 11.

Marathon Digital reported that a storm in Hardin, Montana, significantly damaged the BeoWulf Energy power plant, which supplies power to the company’s equipment. At the same time, the ASIC miners themselves were not affected. About 30,000 devices are now disabled, which is 75% of their total number.

“With the shutdown of mining devices, Marathon will significantly reduce the number of bitcoins mined. It is necessary to wait for repairs to be carried out at the power plant, or to move the equipment to other locations,” the statement said.

Marathon Digital CEO Fred Thiel said that part of the plant’s capacity will be restored in early July. At the same time, the company will start reconnecting the miners to work. The total hashrate of the equipment remaining at Marathon’s disposal was 0.6 Eh/s.

At the same time, the devices were transferred from MaraPool’s own mining pool to a third-party pool in order to increase profitability. In May, the total hash rate of Marathon equipment was about 3.9 EH/s, and the number of devices was 36,830. Thiel previously stressed that the market decline does not bother the company’s management.
