Marathon will support Bitcoin Taproot update

The American company Marathon Digital Holdings announced the support of the MaraPool mining pool for the Taproot update in the network of the first cryptocurrency.

 

“Marathon adheres to the core principles of the bitcoin community […] We will update all our miners within the next week, ”said Fred Thiel, CEO of the firm.

 

Miners supporting the update include special data called “signal bit” in the mined blocks. [signal bit]… The first to do this was the SlushPool.

The developers included the method of activating the Speedy Trial update in the release of Bitcoin Core 0.21.1, which took place on May 2.

The update mechanism implies a three-month window until August 11th. During this period, in any one of the approximately two-week periods between difficulty recalculations, 90% of the mined blocks should contain the corresponding signal. In this case, Taproot will be implemented in November 2021.

According to the Taproot Watch service, at the time of writing, MaraPool has yet to signal support. The update has not yet been supported by ArkPool and an unknown group.

The update will be one of the most important in the history of the first cryptocurrency. In addition to increasing scalability and privacy, it is focused on improving network functionality and coin interchangeability.

On May 4th, five mining pools signaled support for Taproot. Binance Pool announced its position on May 17.
