March 8: projects on the side of women

Yves Saint Laurent Beauty Italia today announced the local partnership with DiRe Women on the Net against violence, as part of the global program to combat violence in intimate relationships: Abuse is not love. DiRe, is the first Italian association of non-institutional anti-violence centers managed by women’s associations, operates at a national level. It aims to give visibility to the methodology and activities of the Anti-violence Centers present on the national territory and to promote knowledge of the phenomenon of violence
the perception of its magnitude and gravity.

Yves Saint Laurent Beauty will support its non-profit partner’s education and training programs. Violence in intimate relationships is a social issue of primary importance: about 1 in 3 women experience this type of violence in her life and only a small part of the survivors get justice. Violence in intimate relationships is one of the most widespread forms of violence against women and includes physical, sexual, economic and psychological abuse, as well as controlling behaviors by the intimate partner.

In the last year, a total of 20,432 women were welcomed in the DiRe anti-violence centers, with a significant increase compared to previous years (15,456 were welcomed in 2018 alone). However, only 21% of the women admitted decide to start a judicial process. Women reported psychological violence (79.5% of cases), physical violence (59.6%), economic violence (35.2%),
sexual violence (15.3%) and stalking (14.7%) 2. The statistics relating to the indicator on the relationship between the perpetrator and the woman leave no doubt: the perpetrator is almost always the partner (55% of cases) or the former partner (almost 20%) 2.

It is therefore a question of violence mainly carried out by people in strong relationship with the woman, therefore aimed at exercising and maintaining a relationship based on control and oppression of the partner. Reports of violence increased by about 30% during the months of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many women have lived in lockdown with an abusive partner and have been unable to ask for support
to specialized organizations, friends, loved ones and colleagues. Research has shown that violence in intimate relationships presents warning signs. If we can spot these signs early, we will be able to recognize it better and ask or offer help. YSL Beauty aims to play a key role in raising awareness of these red flags. The global program “Abuse is not love” it is based on three essential elements: funding research on the topic to develop thought leadership on young people and prevention; by 2030 educate at least two million people to identify the common signs of violence in intimate relationships through international and local partnerships; and train YSL Beauty employees and beauty consultants about violence in intimate relationships in the workplace. Through these partnerships, YSL Beauty aims to raise awareness of the severity of violence in intimate relationships to contribute to meaningful change.
“After our official launch in November, our teams were extremely motivated to extend this program around the world. We are proud to announce the continuation of the prevention campaign with our new partner NGO in Italy: DiRe – Donne in Rete against violence. We know that changing behaviors to prevent abuse does not happen overnight, and therefore
we need localized efforts with our NGO partners in a systemic approach. In this way we can all work together for the long-term eradication of all violence by partners, ”said Stephan Bezy, YSL Beauty International Director General.

KÉRASTASE
In October 2020 Kerastase has created the Risestrong project with the aim of supporting and inspiring women to live life’s challenges with determination and courage. The project was born from a survey carried out by the Research Institute Eumetra MR which explored the resilience of women, the effects of the lockdown on their ability to react to difficulties and sisterhood as an engine of strength especially among
younger. Aware of the fact that there is still a long way to go to help women establish themselves as they deserve in society, Kérastase has worked on training as a means of fostering the economic empowerment of women. This is why the brand wanted to support Fondazione Pangea Onlus, a non-profit organization that has been working since 2002 for the economic and social development of women and their families, in Italy and abroad. Today, two female empowerment projects are being implemented with the contribution of the brand. The first, Italian, called “Young women: what a business!” aimed at Italian women between the ages of 20 and 40, with the aim of providing them with expert support for the development of a successful business and training them with financial and managerial skills. The second is instead developed in Afghanistan where, with the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the already difficult position of women and children has worsened due to less international aid, the reduction of socialization spaces, and the return to a full life. of concealments and limitations to which women
Afghans were unfortunately already well accustomed in the past. In this scenario Pangea, thanks to the support of Kérastase, is working for the professional development of some young deaf women from Kabul, who have been introduced to the profession of hairdresser and a beauty salon has already been inaugurated with the relative purchase of technical material necessary for the start of the activity.
