Marcus, Tyson, Mark: what happened to the most famous models of the 90s?

CWhat happened to Marcus Schenkenberg and the other most famous models of the 90s? With this sentence, thrown out there on a sunny August morning, my journey down the proverbial memory lane began. It may have been the heat, the re-watch Of Sex and the City (the series) that I indulged in during the summer holidays in search of stimuli fashion or the nostalgia for the nineties style that seems to be spreading lately, but suddenly I found myself thinking in particular of him, of Marcus.

It’s been a while since this name came to mind, perhaps because remembering it for me who knew him with pride more through the photo stories and posters of the Meaning what that for Calvin Klein campaigns or the catwalks of Gianni Versacemeant giving up on not remembering whether, in the end, he had chosen the brunette or the blonde, protagonists with him of that love triangle in episodes. Quite frustrating perhaps, but sweet and bitter at the same time, as only nostalgia can be.

Putting aside my personal frustration, which has not been alleviated in any way since no one seems to remember the plot precisely, but only the tons of bibs printed in notebook format, I have nevertheless awakened from my summer torpor by giving myself a goal: to know what happened to good Marcus and not only that: discover what they do today and how they became the most famous models of the nineties.

Browsing the main photo agencies and with the help of Google and social networks, I’ll tell you what I managed to find out about them and also what, unfortunately, I still have to clarify.

Born in the United States in 1970, Tyson Beckford is one of the highest paid African-American models (with Chinese origins on his father’s side) ever. Chosen as a testimonial by Ralph Lauren in the early nineties, over the years he has walked the most famous catwalks, he has been among the 50 most handsome men in the world according to People and he managed to build a career outside of fashion as well.

In fact, many of you will have recognized him not so much for his famous fashion shows or campaigns, but for the various roles that have brought him to the big and small screen. From the unforgettable video clips of Un-Break My Heart by Tony Braxton and Toxic by Britney Spears which see him, in both cases even if with different outcomes, riding a two-wheeler, in acclaimed films such as Zoolanderbut also reality shows and TV programs such as Britain’s Next Top Model.

He did not miss out on any love story with prominent colleagues, such as Naomi Campbell and Shanina Shaik and today he still lives for fashion, cinema and TV, showing off his passion for engines on his Instagram profile, which boasts more than half a million followers. And as you will see in the next photo, to the delight of fans, it seems not to have changed much.

Still in America and still in the early Seventies, to be precise in 1971, was born Jason Lewisa very blond model destined to conquer millions of hearts thanks to one of the most successful TV series of all time. It was clear from the beginning that his path was in front of the camera, from his cameo in Beverly Hills 90210 as a flirtation of Valerie-Tiffany Amber Thiessen, obtained after years of prestigious fashion shows and campaigns, such as that of Hugo Boss which saw him alongside another legend of men’s fashion that we will meet shortly.

No offence, but no campaign or appearance will be able to remind us of this as much as the role of Smith Jerrod in Sex and the Citywho arrived in the early 2000s, when the series was in its final season. As the aspiring actor who accomplishes the impossible, namely making Samantha Jones fall in love (and become monogamous), he embodied on screen the essence of the late 1990s ideal of beauty.

His career certainly did not stop and, after taking part in the two films based on the series, he appeared in several successful films drama tv like Dr. House, CSI Crime Scene Investigation, Brothers&Sisters. As you will see, today he’s a little less blond but it retains all the charm of the good old days.

We leave the United States and its beauties to fly to Holland, the birthplace of Mark Vanderloo. Born in 1968, after studying history at the University of Amsterdam, he became, almost by chance, one of the most sought-after faces by the main fashion brands. From Calvin Klein to Armani, Valentino and Hugo Boss (with the colleague we met a little further up).

He inaugurated the new millennium with a lightning marriage to the supertop Esther Cañadas, which lasted about a year, before settling down about ten years later with another model, Robine van der Meer, and giving birth to two children. Compared to his catwalk colleagues, Vanderloo has never left the fashion world for the cinema: he allowed himself a television interlude by participating in the program America’s Next Top Model but she is still a face sought after by many brands today.

But let’s get to him. Marcus Schenkenbergborn in Sweden in 1968, was the face, and the body, of the Nineties. Discovered in the late Eighties by an American photographer, while he was skating under the Californian sun (things that Ken-Ryan Gosling in Barbie get up right away).

Barry King

Emblem of the beauty of those times, of the physicists at the Baywatch and looks that never have to ask, immediately became the flagship name of brands such as Calvin Klein and Versace, who fought over it for years for fashion shows and advertising campaigns.

Barry King

An animal lover and ambassador for PETA for decades, he has had enormous success in Italy, both for his adventures on the pages of the famous teenage magazine we mentioned at the beginning, and for his appearances in various TV programs such as Those who football or reality The FarmThe world of television, together with that of fashion, are still her natural habitat today and not only.

Marcus’ new dimension is tender and familiar, and through his Instagram profile you can discover him in the recent role of a very tender dad. Whether he ultimately chose the brunette or the blonde, on the pages of Meaning whatI didn’t know. And in the end that’s okay.
