“Maria Callas” the new film starring Angelina Jolie as the opera singer, makes its debut in Brazilian cinemas this Thursday (16).
The film was chosen to open the 48th edition of the São Paulo International Film Festival, in 2024. Initially scheduled to premiere in February, its release in Brazil was brought forward to January.
In the production, Jolie plays opera singer Maria Callas. As with the other films in the trilogy of Pablo Larraín about iconic women — “Jackie”, with Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy and “Spencer “, starring Kristen Stewart in the role of Princess Diana — the film portrays Callas’ last years in Paris in the 1970s.
To date, the actress has already received Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations for the production, and is tipped to compete for an Oscar (find out how the selection of Academy nominees works).
In addition to Jolie, “Maria Callas” has Kodi Smit-McPhee (“Attack of the Dogs”), Alba Rohrwacher (“La chimera”), Pierfrancesco Favino (“The Last Night in Milan”) and Valeria Golino (“The Morning Show”).
