Maria Campai found dead, a 17-year-old she had met online arrested

The The lifeless body of Maria Campai, a 42-year-old of Romanian origins, was found in an abandoned housean isolated ruin in Viadana, a small town located on the left bank of the Po, in the Mantua area.

The woman had mysteriously disappeared after a job interviewfrom September 19th. Was a 17 year old was stopped which, according to initial reconstructions, Maria Campai would have known online: the young man convinced her to join him at his home in the center of Viadana. Here, based on what emerged from the investigations, the two would have had an intimate encounter.

However, for reasons that are still unclear, the boy then violently hit the woman on the headand perhaps he would also have tried to suffocate her, thus causing her death. These initial conclusions were confirmed by the preliminary inspection of the medical examiner Antonello Cirnelli, although the autopsy in the next few days will clarify the exact causes of death.

After the murder, the 17-year-old hid the body in the garden of the abandoned house, in a difficult to identify point: the remote position of the ruin made the searches longer and more complicated.

Separated from her husband, Maria Campai lived in Parma with her sister. Last September 19th, a friend had driven her to Viadana for a job interview organized via the internet. But the woman had not provided specific details either on the identity of the person she was meeting with or on the nature of the job.

The friend, who had left her in the center of town with the agreement to be called back at the end of the interview, never received that phone call. The next day, on September 20, the family raised the alarm. Initially, the police hypothesized a voluntary removalbut the picture soon changed. The searches intensified, also involving molecular dogs, but only after a week was the body located.

Investigators are examining the hypothesis that the 17-year-old may have lured the victim with the promise of a job offer. A lead that remains to be verified.
