The defense of former firefighter Maxwell Simões Corrêa, known as Suel, suspected of participating in the murders of councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, asked for his preventive detention to be revoked.
The lawyers also requested the annulment of the plea bargain of former Rio de Janeiro military police officer Élcio Vieira de Queiroz. In the request, the defense concluded that the accusation “does not have any evidence gathered to make it credible”
A CNN found out that Maxwell is isolated in a 7m² cell, entitled to one hour of sunbathing a day and can only receive visits from lawyers.
According to the defense, the former firefighter is aware of the situation of his son, who turned himself in to the Federal Police (PF) on suspicion of involvement in the “gatonet” scheme, and also of his wife, who was the subject of a search and seizure warrant. .
Suel, as he is known, was arrested on July 24 by the Federal Police on suspicion of participating in the murders of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes.
The former firefighter had already been arrested in June 2020 in an operation investigating the crime and serving house arrest.
According to the investigation, he would have helped to hide weapons from Ronnie Lessa, appointed as executor of the councilwoman and the driver. Among the weapons would be the one used in the homicides.
