The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) was called to decide whether the investigation into the plane crash that killed singer Marília Mendonça – which took place in Caratinga (MG), in November last year – will be conducted by the State or Federal Courts of Minas Gerais.
“The conflict is what we call a “negative conflict of jurisdiction”, that is, neither of the two courts, first the federal and then the state, declared itself competent for the case”, the STJ informed the CNN.
The rapporteur is Minister Antonio Saldanha Palheiro, of the Third Section, and there is still no date for a decision or trial.
Also according to the STJ, the body was triggered by the state justice, represented by the 3rd Criminal Court and the Jury Court of Caratinga (MG). The other involved is the federal court of the Civil and Criminal Court of Munhuaçu (MG).
The Civil Police of Minas Gerais reported that the police investigation that investigates the accident in Caratinga will continue after a decision of jurisdictional competence by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
