Marin Lepen calls on those who want to leave the party to ‘do it now’

The leader of the French far right, Marine Le Pen, whose election campaign for the April presidential election has been shaken by a series of “defeats” in her party, said today that if any members want to leave, they should do so immediately.

Le Pen, the leader of the National Alarm, is in second or third place, according to opinion polls showing that right-wing and far-right candidates will fight each other over who will face Emanuel Macron in the second round.

“Those who want to leave can do it, but they must do it now,” Le Pen said on the sidelines of a meeting of European far-right leaders in Madrid. “Having people here whose hearts and minds are elsewhere is unacceptable. It shows a lack of dignity and respect for our supporters,” he added.

On Friday, Le Pen’s niece, Marion Marshall, who is very popular among far-right French voters, dealt a severe blow to her aunt after she said Eric Zemour was a better candidate than her for the presidency. Two MEPs have already left the National Alarm lately.

Although the National Alarm (formerly National Front) has dominated the French far right for decades, initially under the leadership of Jean-Marie Le Pen, Marin’s father, it has so far managed to gain only a few municipalities in France.
