Marina Ovsyannikova: The Russian journalist with the anti-war poster becomes the correspondent of the German Die Welt

Correspondent in Ukraine and Russia for the German newspaper The World is from today and officially the Russian journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who in mid-March had invaded the television studio during the news bulletin holding anti-war placards.

The journalist will write for the newspaper and will contribute regularly to her television news bulletin.

«Marina Ovsyannikova had the courage, at a crucial moment, to confront viewers in Russia with an unadorned image of reality“, Explained Ulf Posart, director of the Welt group, in a statement.

“He thus defended the most important journalistic virtues and did so despite the threat of state repression,” added the head of the conservative newspaper.

“Welt represents exactly what the courageous people in Ukraine are defending so vigorously: freedom. “As a journalist, I consider it my duty to defend this freedom,” the 43-year-old Obsyanikova said in the same statement broadcast by the Athens News Agency.

The Russian journalist appeared in mid-March during a live broadcast of a news bulletin on the Pervy Kanal with a placard criticizing the Moscow military operation in Ukraine and denouncing the “propaganda” of the state-controlled media.

Marina Ovsyannikova was arrested and detained for a short time and then sentenced to a fine and released. He has since left the channel and is facing criminal charges that carry heavy prison sentences, under a recent law punishing any “false information” about the Russian military.
