The Sustainability Network made official this Saturday (11), in the capital of São Paulo, the support to Fernando Haddad (EN) in the dispute for the government of São Paulo. The position of deputy on Haddad’s ticket is not yet defined. The PT would like to have Marina Silva (Rede) as his deputy. There are, however, resistances in the PT itself.
At this Saturday’s meeting, the PT member and the former minister left the possibility open. Marina stated that there is a debate inside and outside the Network that “improvement of the National Congress” is fundamental. “Yes, I am able to be a candidate for federal deputy for São Paulo”.
Haddad, in turn, avoided answering whether Marina was the “deputy of his dreams”. He said the composition depends on the final design of the coalition supporting his candidacy, which he hopes to be defined later this month. “Then yes, we will define the majority slate.”
“I have differences with the PT. But I deal with political differences with dialogue. That’s what I can say”, said the former minister and environmentalist, when answering questions from journalists on the subject.
With residency in São Paulo, she can be a candidate for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies, in Brasília, or assume the position of vice-governor of São Paulo. Another name considered behind the scenes for a possible deputy for Haddad is that of Marina Helou, who was a candidate for Mayor of the capital in 2020 and, today, is a state deputy.
Marina Silva was born in Rio Branco, Acre, and as a child received health treatments in the capital of São Paulo. “I have a political, family relationship and a lot of gratitude for everything that São Paulo has done for my life for three times when the doctors said that the thing was ugly for me.”
“Democracy is something to be exercised really”, said the former minister and environmentalist as she began her speech at the event ‘The Future of São Paulo is sustainable’. She cited the war in Ukraine, environmental disputes and the “political war” in Brazil. “The way you win will determine the way you govern,” she said, referring to what could happen in the country if President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is re-elected.
Recently cured of contamination by Covid-19, she apologized for being tired and, accompanied by Marina Helou (Rede), thanked God for the opportunity to be with her former partner in the PT governments. “I was, a long time ago, the youngest senator in Brazil”, she pointed out, about her term in the Senate that began in 1995. When she was Minister of the Environment, Haddad occupied the Ministry of Education.
Party directives, which include Marina as one of the founders, were handed over to Haddad before the meeting. The document talks about the need to preserve environmental areas in the state, demarcation of indigenous lands, female representation in politics, development of economic policies, combating racism, among other topics.
Disappearance of Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips
After the event, theEstadão” questioned Marina Silva about the responsibility of the federal government in the disappearance of indigenist Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips in the Amazon. She attributes the outcome to the absence of the State in the western region of Amazonas.
“The responsibility lies, in the first place, with the absence of the State. We have several isolated peoples that should have the protection of the State. The State is silent, it makes a speech encouraging violence. They were doing the work that the government does not do, the journalist and the indigenist.”
