Marina Silva is among Time's 100 most influential people of 2024; see the list

Marina Silva The Minister of the Environment is among the 100 most influential people of 2024 according to Time magazine .

The Minister, who was selected in the “Leaders” category, is the only Brazilian on the list, which was released this Wednesday (17).

Every year, Time magazine chooses 100 personalities from different areas – including artists, athletes, politicians, businesspeople and others – who stood out throughout the year in some way.

In justifying Marina's choice, the vehicle highlights that “she is rebuilding Brazil's capacity to stop the rampant illegal deforestation in the Amazon, a mission that is at the center of her political and activist life”.

Through a text that justifies Time's choice, Christiana Figueres, former executive secretary for climate change at the UN (United Nations), also mentions the Minister's defense of renewable energy.

Last year, President Lula was selected for the list. In 2022, indigenous leader Sônia Guajajara and researcher Tulio de Oliveira were present.

In the 2024 list, other iconic names also stand out, such as Dua Lipa, America Ferrera , Kylie Minogue , Sofia Coppola , Max Verstappen , Javier Milei , between others. To see the complete list, click here.

It is also worth mentioning that the names selected by Time are divided into six categories: artists, innovators, titans, leaders, icons and pioneers.
