I come home after a few very intense days made up of public events, interesting meetings and revels with dear friends. Yet only now that I’m recovering my energy do I realize that we are already in December.
When the famous holiday season comes, my head goes into recap mode. I think about what I have done in recent months, what I should have done and about usual good resolutions for the new year that I will promptly disregard.
The last two years have been tough, I have seen the world bow to a pandemic. I’ve seen people lose a lot, too much. I have seen the rights of entire communities ignored by those who hold the reins of this country. I saw the terror in the eyes of those who do not want to give up their privileges. But I have also seen the strength of those who continue to get up after bad falls, who never stop fighting for a more just and equal world. It is a society that (slowly) begins to open up to views and points of view that have so far been set aside.
As I often say, we are in a period of transition, and transitions by nature are made up of strong actions, intense movements, which serve to break the hardest layer of barriers. They are signs of change, a bit like earthquakes, those violent manifestations that testify to the continuous change of the Earth. It is very likely that the actual consequences of these “aftershocks” will be seen in a few years. In the meantime, however, thinking about that positive future that I imagine, I would like to try to look at these holidays with a less individualistic and more collective perspective. And this is why I have selected three solidarity initiatives for Christmas, three projects in support of charities and humanitarians.
Emergency’s “Panettone Fatto Bene”
This year, in addition to the solidarity gadgets, it is possible to support Emergency with the purchase of the “Panettone Fatto Bene”, made in collaboration with Tre Marie. The proceeds from the sale, net of expenses, will be used to support Emergency’s projects in Italy and abroad. Panettone will be present in Italian squares from 4 to 8 December and on the online shop, together with the other Emergency brand products.
Elena Mirò & Pangea
For Christmas 2021 Elena Mirò has created, in collaboration with the Pangea Onlus Foundation, a limited edition accessories: hats, scarves, stoles, key rings, clutches and a special fragrance for the environment, part of the proceeds will go to finance the projects of Pangea Onlus, which for almost twenty years has been involved in promoting the economic and social development of women , their families and surrounding communities.
Christmas Store VIDAS
After the #DatemiUnMantello campaign, carried out on the occasion of the National Palliative Care Day, VIDAS once again opens its temporary shops in Milan, in Corso Garibaldi and Via della Spiga, where it is possible to buy second hand design and fashion items, but also new merchandise of well-known brands with discounts from 30 to 50% and an assortment of wines and Christmas sweets. The entire proceeds from the sales supports the pediatric hospice Casa Sollievo Bimbi, where thanks to the presence of a specialized team, children and young people with incurable diseases receive, together with their loved ones, free care and support.
