Bobbitt, a former Marine, was diagnosed with toxic polyneuropathy after exposure to contaminated water at the Camp Lejeune military installation in the late 1980s. The painful condition causes nerve damage in the extremities and caused Bobbitt to amputate all of his toes over the years, the last of which were removed in 2023.
