The Minister of Regional Development, Rogério Marinho, announced, in a press conference in the early afternoon of this Tuesday (1st), that the federal government will, in the next 15 days, hold talks on lines of financing and ways to work together with the mayors of the cities of São Paulo affected by the rains.
President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), after flying over some areas affected by the storms, also participated in the event. He lamented the deaths and said that everything possible will be done to help the region.
Bolsonaro said that the secretary of Civil Defense was sent to the state and the mayors of the regions were contacted. According to him, six ministers were also at the press conference.
According to the president, some mayors have already presented their needs to the federal government, but he did not specify which cities or the amount requested.
Marinho said that there is a need to work together for the reconstruction, at the same time that the affected families are welcomed.
“The work is being done according to the legislation and according to people’s needs. Moment is of solidarity with families and shelter for homeless people. We need to work together with the state government, municipalities and civil society,” said the minister.
The mayor of Cajamar said that “it is no secret to anyone how long we have been forgotten here” and that he talked to the ministers about transport and housing in the region.

The state of São Paulo has been suffering from rains since the early hours of Sunday (30), which have already caused at least 24 deaths and 660 homeless or displaced families in eight cities.
The deaths occurred in the following counties:
- Franco da Rocha: 8
- Francisco Morato: 4
- Várzea Paulista: 5
- Embu das Artes: 3
- Aruja: 1
- Ribeirão Preto: 1
- Jaú: 1
- Itapevi: 1
On Monday afternoon (31), the São Paulo government sent a letter to the federal government requesting R$ 472 million for works due to the rains and for prevention.
In an interview with CNNMinister Rogério Marinho said that São Paulo “wants an unnecessary clash” and that there is political motivation in the request.
During this Tuesday’s press conference, the minister spoke about the matter again, stating that the state government’s request concerns the budget forecast and “not the moment we are living”.
“As for the governor’s request, he knows how to do it. It’s not civil defense and it’s not that way. I’m sure he has that information,” he said.
Also in an interview with CNNthe secretary of Regional Development of São Paulo, Marco Vinholi, said he was surprised by Marinho’s demonstration and that “this is a political speech”.
“If this is considered a political request, I can imagine what a technical request must be when São Paulo passes by, with such an impact as a result of the rains,” said Vinholi.
The secretary also reported that more than 1,500 families were evacuated from their homes by the rains. The state also released R$ 15 million to the affected cities.
According to the expert, rainfall can reach 100 millimeters per day.
