Mario Draghi: ‘The Five Stars remain in the government’

The Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi emphasized in a press conference that his government continues its course without interruption, taking for granted the participation of the Five Stars.

“The contribution of Five Stars was and is particularly important, we do not want it to be limited to simple parliamentary support,” added Draghi.

At the same time, he confirmed that he spoke by phone with the head of the “five stars”, Giuseppe Conte, and reiterated that he never wanted to get involved in the internal affairs of this political force.

The Italian Prime Minister, at the same time, stated that his government extended for another three months the power of reducing the cost of energy for the economically weaker households and that companies in the energy sector will be supported, with the aim of the largest possible gas storage.

Asked about it, Mario Draghi underlined that the role of governments is to act so that the causes that lead to populism can be eliminated, such as the non-satisfaction of citizens’ demands.

At the same time, he made it clear that he does not mean to lead a new government, which is supported by a parliamentary majority different from the current one.

In relation to Ukraine, finally, the head of the government of Rome emphasized that NATO and G7 countries will continue to support Ukraine, by all means, until necessary, although there is a willingness to start a serious negotiation process.
