When he answers the phone, on his birthday, Marisa Laurito he is returning to Rome from Milan. Its unmistakable r fly makes us immediately fly to the years of Those of the Night humming along with Renzo Arbore The mattress is happiness. Words were never more apt.
It is pure energy that Marisa Laurito transmits as she crosses Italy by car and tells herself as if she were sitting here next to us, in front of a good coffee. Because that of Marisa Laurito is a generous soul, as told by the thousand roles she has played, the career that has never stopped.
This is shown by the iconic photographs that interrupt the narration at a certain point to nourish the memory, within the autobiography A ruffled life, in the bookshop for Rizzoli.
Seventy years, a round figure, which smells of harmony.
«I feel great because age doesn’t make sense to me, time has never made sense. Even when I was young I never remembered how old I was. I don’t even remember the age of the others, birthdays. Time in my opinion is a state of mind, many say that time as we see it does not exist. I have always lived a lot with the lack of this kind of time in my mind ».
Is the present the future?
«Yes, I have great energy, planning, curiosity, will to live. As long as the heart loves and the brain works in my opinion I don’t have to worry too much. I have always looked to the future a lot, I have never looked back because what each of us has done has already passed. It is wonderful that it happened but it is already something behind us, which is why it is always important to plan, to have the mind ahead, to think about something else. I find the advancing age fantastic because every age has its part of beauty. This one in particular gave me satisfaction, the desire to learn more and more, to be more and more professional, to continue browsing in many worlds. I find it very fascinating. Then, you no longer have to fight like when you were young ».
His novel begins with a reflection on his many lives. What is the current one?
«This that I live today is my best life. In the book there is a declaration of love towards Naples, with ten chapters dedicated to this which is my city. I always say that I would like to continue to be reborn there because it is a place that has given me a lot. I am an artist born in a beautiful city that I carry under my skin. I think I am in a beautiful life, perhaps the one I like best ».
What kind of life is that “ruffled”?
“Mine is a ruffled life in the sense that I’ve done quite what I wanted. Certainly not giving in to compromises, working very hard, with a lot of effort, but I did it ».
From the very beginning, when her family didn’t want her to become an actress.
“My family absolutely didn’t want me to be an actress. So it was a very painful decision but I never stopped because mine is truly a passion that starts from the belly. I remember very well the day I had this desire, I was 9 years old and since then I have continued to want to be an actress. This story had to be very deep inside me and I carried it on despite all the difficulties and even when I didn’t have anything to live with, I never thought of changing my job ».
How did you get through those moments?
«Difficult moments are always overcome, even if painfully, with great optimism. I try to find the best in difficulties, because I believe that there is always ».
The best is also in the many moments of real life that he tells in the novel.
«My closest friends and those with whom I worked in an extraordinary way who later became my family are Renzo Arbore and Luciano De Crescenzo, who unfortunately is gone but I always carry him with me. I have a lot of thanks for the life that has put me in their path and also that of other special people. Friendship is very important to me, I am thinking of Celentano but also of my friend, a talented journalist Giuliana Gargiulo, Barbara Boncompagni, a lot of dear friends who have accompanied me for many years ».
The one with Renzo Arbore was a partnership that made Italy dream.
«With Renzo we have made a lot of trips, wonderful encounters, fantastic stories. We had a lot of fun, we laughed a lot, we worked a lot together. It was a formidable meeting, we went to Kenya, Senegal, many wonderful and fun trips ».
She has been linked to her partner Piero for 20 years. What is your relationship with love?
“Love is as basic as friendship. It is a feeling of accompaniment, but you have to find the right person. I always say that when you can’t find it it’s much better not to have it, better to travel alone. If instead it arrives it’s all a walk, on the contrary we risk accompanying us to people who will only make us waste time ».
Has it happened to you?
«Yes, sometimes we fall in love with love more than with the person, more so as not to be alone and instead we must resist. I realized it and I was wrong. When Piero arrived I realized that things are much simpler than one can imagine ».
What do you recommend to girls starting work today?
«It is fundamental to choose something in which you have a lot of passion, which you want to carry on because passion overcomes all inconveniences, hardships, moments of despair. It takes you and makes you arrive. Then, always do the same thing. Do not hope to arrive with nothing, without knowing how to do anything, this is not possible. It takes talent, determination, professionalism and studying. It is very tiring but it would be stupid to say that you can get there any other way. And finally, it does not necessarily mean that you have to arrive, in terms of success. For example, I wanted to keep absolutely with what I earned, my point of arrival was that: to become good, to earn. All there was more was a beautiful gift ».
