Mariupol: Buses have not yet reached the pick-up point to pick up civilians

Buses scheduled to transport more civilians to get away from Mariupol have not yet reached the agreed destination, the city council said today, contradicting an earlier report that these citizens had left the devastated port city in southeastern Ukraine.

The city council urged these citizens to remain in office. It was not immediately clear what caused the delay.

Earlier, Petri Andriusenko, Mariupol’s deputy mayor, had said the buses had left Mariupol, but later posted a message stating that obstacles to the planned evacuation of civilians were being met.

These civilians come from the city, not the Azofstal steel plant, from where the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross have organized evacuation vehicles.
