Mark Zuckerberg: “We will implement NFT on Instagram in the near future”

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg told South by Southwest (SXSW) that the company will complete work on integrating NFT into Instagram in the “near future.”

Mark Zuckerberg did not go into full details, specifying that the integration of non-fungible tokens into the company’s photo and video sharing app is in progress and will be completed as soon as the Instagram team resolves some technical issues.

“We are working to implement NFT on Instagram soon. Over the next few months, it will be possible to download some of your NFTs and hopefully over time we will be able to build things in this environment,” Zuckerberg said in an interview with Diamond John of Shark Tank.

Instagram’s interest in NFTs is most likely fueled by the vision of parent company Meta, which is developing a direction to fill the new virtual world with digital goods.

“My hope is that the clothes your metaverse avatar wears can be created as NFTs and you can wear them in different places,” Zuckerberg said.

Last December, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri confirmed that the company is “actively exploring” NFTs to bring the technology to a wider audience. The company is interested in hosting NFT-related content and attracting collector token creators.
