Market fears new calamity decree to deal with inflation

The market fears the declaration of a public calamity situation in Brazil, which has become an option since President Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) aides told the CNN in a reserved character, that the solution is considered the most effective to try to contain inflation.

Also this week, the IBGE released on Thursday the GDP result for the first quarter of 2022, which increased 1%. The rise was driven by the services sector, a reflection of a repressed demand due to the pandemic, in the view of analysts. On the other hand, agribusiness and investments were the negative highlights of the Brazilian economy at the beginning of the year.

A survey carried out by GO Associados exclusively for CNN points out that, in almost 4 years of administration, the government had a gain of R$ 232 billion with privatizations, federal concessions or with federal modelling. The sum of planned investments resulting from these concessions is R$ 198 billion.

Presented by Thais Herédia and Priscila Yasbek, the CNN Money presents a balance of news issues that influence markets, finances and the direction of society and the dynamics of power in Brazil and in the world.
