Market raises forecasts for inflation, Selic and GDP for 2023, shows Focus

The financial market raised its forecasts for inflation, interest rates and GDP (Gross Domestic Product) for 2023, according to this Monday’s Focus Bulletin (5).

The expectation now is that the IPCA will remain at 5.08% in 2023, compared to 5.02% in the previous week. The calculation for the index that measures the official inflation of the economy for this year was also adjusted, to 5.92%, compared to 5.91% in the previous week.

The forecast for the Selic at the end of 2023 was 11.75%, compared to 11.50% in the previous week. For this year, the forecast for the economy’s basic rate was maintained at 13.75%.

Regarding economic growth forecast for next year, the calculation now points to an increase of 0.75%, compared to 0.70% in the previous week. For this year, the number went to 3.05%, compared to 2.81% in the previous week.

For the exchange rate expected at the end of next year, the value was maintained at R$ 5.25. For 2022, the new calculation shows a terminal rate of BRL 5.25, a slight drop compared to the BRL 5.27 forecast in the previous week.

The forecasts for the main indicators of the Brazilian economy have been revised in the midst of a scenario of uncertainties generated by the discussions on the PEC do Quero and the delay by the team of president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in announcing a name to head the Farm.
