Markets must have volatility waiting for Lula’s responses to the economy

President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said on Sunday night (30) that he was “half happy, half worried about the transition”. Lula shares the same caution with executive managers of the financial market. Guaranteed by law, the transition process largely depends on the goodwill of the current government.

In the financial market, assets must experience volatility, correcting the balance between threats and opportunities. From the president-elect, many answers are expected. The first one: who will be the country’s Minister of Economy in a PT government. Bolsonaro still has two months of government and part of the changes in the federal budget need to be negotiated now with the current Congress. The stance of Paulo Guedes and the articulators of the government will be closely monitored.

This Monday’s CNN Money (31) talks about the challenges, obstacles, legacy of current times, internal and external environment for the arrival of a new PT government.

Challenge risk

The biggest risk pointed out by analysts and economists was the contestation of the election results. The view now is that, even if it occurs to some extent, it has lost political strength to threaten the outcome of the polls. Still, we have a divided country.

Lula was elected president of Brazil with 50.9% of the votes. The country thus ends a long process of a fierce dispute that flirted with high risks for a long time. Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the first president not to be reelected in the country, has been silent, withdrawn, since the announcement of the result. Some of his allies spoke for him, the institutions spoke for him, from Arthur Lira, Sergio Moro, the governor-elect in São Paulo, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, to the leaders of the judiciary. All legitimized the victory of the PT and, therefore, of the Brazilian electoral system.

Presented by Thais Herédia and Priscila Yasbek, the CNN Money presents a balance of news issues that influence markets, finances and the direction of society and the dynamics of power in Brazil and in the world.
