Marsala, body exchange in hospital: the wrong body was about to be cremated

He was about to be cremated in Calabria. But it was the wrong corpse: one happened at the Marsala hospital exchange of corpses.

A woman, on Friday, along with the funeral home staff, he could not find his father’s body, an elderly Marsala who had died the previous day of an aneurysm in the aorta. The police, called by the daughter of the deceased (who also turned to a lawyer), arrived a few minutes later. And she found that, in fact, there had indeed been an exchange of corpses.

When the body of the woman’s father had to be placed in the coffin, “the attendants could not find the body”: in place of that of the elderly Marsala was “delivered that of another corpse“. The staff of the funeral home would have asked for explanations to the health management, which, as reported Tp24.it“After some research he confirmed that an exchange of corpses had taken place.”

«My father’s body had been taken the afternoon of the previous day and it had been brought to Paceco», Explains the woman,« where the funeral was held yesterday morning, and he was already there traveling to Calabria where the cremation would take place. The health management, after having contacted the funeral home that my father had taken, sent the body back. When I arrived at the hospital, after I was authorized, I got ready for recognition. In the meantime the funeral has been postponed from 12:30 to 15:45 ».

To the journalists of Tp24.itthe daughter of the deceased explains with bitterness: «The first thing to say among all is the moral damage caused to a daughter who is already overwhelmed by grief for the loss of his father, who finds himself spending hours in the agony of fear of not having the right to cry over his parent’s coffin. Second point: what if we decided to celebrate the funeral in the afternoon? I would never have been able to have the body since it would have been cremated? ». And again: “Point three: why do relatives not have access to see the deceased while the funeral directors can enter and exit taking the first bag they find without any nurses or osss to check? I was lucky enough to have an honest agency, Ragona and D’Antoni, who told me what happened, when they could have taken the wrong body and I would never have known anything. But the question is: during the pandemic, how many times have similar situations occurred?“.
