Scorsese and DiCaprio form one of Hollywood’s greatest dream teams. For the first 13 years of the 21st century, Leo becomes the bloodthirsty filmmaker’s “favorite”; Killers of the Flower Moon and the sixth feature film together. The former teen idol (49 years old on November 11th) took over from Bob De Niro as “protégé” when the latter suggested him to his director friend after having acted with him in Want to start again of 1993. When, nine years later, the man behind the camera of Gangs of New York he thought about the cast for the film and remembered Leo. Let’s celebrate the release of Killers of the Flower Moon with the ranking of the films of the «award-winning company» DiCaprio-Scorsese: from Shutter Island to The Wolf of Wall Street.

5. Shutter Island (2010)

The actor plays federal agent Teddy Daniels, called to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a patient who escaped from the criminal asylum on Shutter Island. This is the only film by the Scorsese-DiCaprio team that did not receive any Oscar nominations, unlike the others, all nominated by the Academy, even in the main category.

4. Gangs of New York (2002)

First collaboration of the Hollywood dream team. The former teen idol took over from Robert De Niro as a “protégé” when the latter suggested him to the director after having acted with him in Want to start again of 1993. When, nine years later, Scorsese thought about the cast for the film he remembered Leo. DiCaprio plays Amsterdam Vallon seeking revenge against his father’s killer, gang leader William Cutting, known as “the Butcher” (Daniel Day-Lewis), in the infamous 19th century Five Points neighborhood. DiCaprio accidentally broke Day-Lewis’ nose during the fight sequence; the latter continued to shoot the scene despite the injury.

3. The Departed (2006)

Hollywood remake of a Hong Kong crime drama (Infernal Affairs). DiCaprio is Billy Costigan, a cop who infiltrates Boston’s Irish underworld. Won 4 Oscars, including best film and director; the first for Scorsese. The cell scene, with Leo doing push-ups, is an homage to De Niro in Cape Fear (filmed 15 years earlier).

2. The Aviator (2004)

DiCaprio is Howard Hughes: producer and aviation magnate, suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder. To prepare for the role, he spent time with an OCD sufferer called Edward. Scorsese directs his first biopic in the classic sense (excluding Wild bull).

1.The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

The seventy-year-old Scorsese, at top energy, directs DiCaprio in his maximum acting expression. The film is based on the autobiography of Jordan Belfort: a high finance broker indicted in 1998 for fraud and money laundering. On set, Leo and colleagues snorted crushed vitamin B to reproduce cocaine: «It burned our noses», revealed the actor at a press conference in New York.
