Former Peru President Martin Viskara was put under temporary detention for five months in a trial concerning a corruption case since the time of the local government in the province 11 years ago. The measure was ordered during a hearing until he was released and went voluntarily. Judge Jorge Chavez cited a “risk of fleeing” and his absence from the process, according to his order, released by the judiciary. Mr Viskara, who ruled the country from 2018 to 2020, was immediately arrested. He was expected to be transferred to a small prison in an eastern suburb in the capital Lima, where three other former state leaders (Alejandro Toledo, Oyea Umala, Pedro Castillo) were held.
