Marvel actor reveals toC diagnosis: “intrusive thoughts”

The actor Willter 32, spoke about the process of living after the diagnosis of OCD (compulsive obsessive disorder). He is known to have acted in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Travel of the Alvorada Pilgrim” and “Family of Bagument.”

“OCD is something that was diagnosed at the beginning of my teens and, when I reflect on it, I think I had intrusive thoughts – which are one of the OCD subtypes, so to speak – and an OCD not diagnosed when I was aware of my imaginary friend, for example,” he revealed in an interview with Podcast Happy Place.

“It only had a different and usually more imaginative tone for a child. I remember having this voice in my head saying that if I didn’t stepped in certain stones on the way to my parents’ house, something terrible would happen to them,” he said.

Also present in the series “The Bear” and the movies “MindSommar” (2019) and “The Return” (2015), today sees OCD as “interesting”. “When I was younger, it was just this voice in my head, this figure that I labeled as a negative character in my life, and only after my diagnosis – and in fact, long after I knew I had an OCD – I looked back and realized, ‘Ah, that’s what was happening.'” He said.

In the interview, Poulter defined himself as a lucky one for having access to therapy in adolescence. “I was probably 14 years old when I started to have obsessive and intrusive thoughts. Until I was diagnosed and received this therapy, I thought I was totally alone with this condition – or not even condition at that time, but this way of thinking, with this ‘defective’ brain.

Finally, during his statement, Hollywood actor said he intends to help other people with his report. Recently, Tuppence Middleton, actress of “Downton Abbey”, also made public to talk about life with OCD.

“Even when someone tells you, ‘I have anxiety too, I also have intrusive thoughts, I also have toc,’ I know – because I’ve been through it – that 90% of the time the other person is thinking, ‘You have, but not like me.’ The distinction between fact and feeling is huge – and one of the cruel aspects of OCD is that it completely distorts that difference,” he concluded.

Will Poulter will be in “War Time”, the first film by the A24 film studio with his own distribution in Brazil. Directed by Alex Garland and Noah Centineo in the cast, the feature film debut on April 17.
