Marvell introduced the industry’s first 5nm Ethernet Physical Layer (PHY) interface chip with 4-level Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM4) inputs and outputs supporting 100 Gbps. The throughput of the product reaches 1.6 Tbit / s. The use of 5nm technology has significantly reduced power consumption.

The novelty received the designation Alaska C 88X93160. The manufacturer describes it as “a fully integrated single-chip Ethernet transceiver with Long Reach 100G PAM4 I / O for passive cables and interconnects.” The instrument can be used for two 800 GbE ports, four 400 GbE ports, eight 200 GbE ports, or sixteen 100 GbE ports.
According to Marvell, this is the first product of its kind in the industry to fully comply with the IEEE 802.3ck specification for 100 Gbps serial I / O and the 800 GbE specification. It supports Gearboxing to help maintain full bandwidth when four 100 GbE links are connected to one 400 GbE link formed from eight 50 GbE links.
The Marvell Alaska C 88X93160 PHY is expected to help accelerate the transition to 100 GbE connectivity by providing scalability for mission-critical cloud workloads and applications, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Customers are already receiving preview samples of the product in 27 x 27 mm FCBGA packages.
