MASH actress Sally Kellerman has died

The American died at the age of 84 actor, singer and writer Sally Kellerman. Kellermann was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role as Margaret “Hot Lips” Hooligan in Robert Altman’s feature film MASH.

Her public relations manager, Alan Eikler, confirmed her death, and Claire’s daughter added that she had been suffering from dementia for the past five years.

Born in Long Beach, California, Kellerman had an unforgettable role in the third episode of “Star Trek”, “Where No Man Has Gone Before” in which he played Dr. Elizabeth Denner. Her mother was a piano teacher and her father a Shell Oil executive.

While in high school he starred in musical Meet Me in St. Louis and gave a demo to the jazz impresario Norman Grange. He offered her a record deal with Verve, but when he was just 18, he turned it down.

In 1957 she made her film debut in the film by Samuel Z. Arkoff “Reform School Girl”.

He had a role in Truman Capote’s play «Breakfast at Tiffany’s»which did not last long and was auditioned for the role of Margaret Hooligan in the movie MASH.

Sally Kellerman starred in the films, among many others The Boston Strangler (1968), The April Fools (1969), Slither (1973), Lost Horizon (1973), Welcome to LA (1976), The Big Bus (1976), Foxes (1980), Blake Edwards’ That’s Life! (1986), All’s Fair (1989) and Boynton Beach Club (2005).

The career in singing

She followed a career in singing and in 1972 released her first albumRoll With the Feelin. “I love acting… but my dream is to have two babies and make one album a year, maybe a movie a year. “I do not want to do neither,” he said in 1973. “I do not want to do neither.”

Her second album, Sally, was released in 2009. Her memoir “Read My Lips: Stories of a Hollywood Life” was released in 2013.
