Masp extends new LGBT+ flag on facade during Pride Parade

O São Paulo Museum of Art Assis Chateaubriand (Masp) raised the banner of sexual and gender diversity on its facade for the first time in history to celebrate the 28th São Paulo LGBT+ Pride Parade this Sunday (2).

The flag of more than 70 meters, which can be seen by all those parading along Avenida Paulista, has the new design of the symbol which, in addition to using the traditional colors of the rainbow, also highlights historically marginalized groups.

The new design was created and proposed by Italian-British designer Valentino Vecchietti, and began to be used from 2021 onwards by the LGBTQIA+ community around the world.

On the left side of the rainbow, a triangle has been included. It features the flag of intersex people (yellow with a circle in the center), transgender people (blue, white and pink), in addition to the colors brown and black, which represent racial issues.

Starting at 10am, the parade will feature 16 electric trios who, for the first time, will drive on the odd side of the track .

The São Paulo Parade is considered one of the largest in the world, having entered the Guinness World Book in 2006, with 2.5 million people.

The theme of the São Paulo Parade this year is “Enough of Negligence and Setbacks in the Legislature – Vote consciously for the rights of the LGBT+ population ”.

At the request of the organizers, the population showed up wearing green and yellow, as a way of trying to recover the symbols and colors of the Brazilian flag, used in far-right demonstrations in recent years.
