Mass redundancies in the State Department – “drops” over 1,350 workers, as part of the restructuring that Trump demands

The State Department will launch redundancies of more than 1,350 US -based workers today, as President Donald Trump’s government proceeds with an unprecedented restructuring of the diplomatic corps, a move that critics will undermine the US’s ability to defend themselves. The redundancies include 1,107 civil servants and 246 US -based diplomats, according to an internal announcement by the State Department that was sent to the workforce, which has been aware of Reuters. “The State Department is rationalizing domestic functions to focus on diplomatic priorities,” the statement said. “Personnel reductions have been carefully configured to influence non -basic functions, offices that do the same job, or unnecessary offices as well as offices where significant improvements in efficiency can be identified,” he added.
