Massa waves to voters from different political spectrums and promises a government of national unity

The government candidate for the Presidency of Argentina, Sergio Massa (Unión por la Patria), waved to voters from different political spectrums in a speech after counting the votes on Sunday night (22). He also promised to form a government of national unity if he is elected in the second round.

I also want to speak to the Argentines who voted blank, to the Argentines who, without hope, stayed at home, to those who voted for Miriam [Bregman] or in Juan [Schiaretti], I want to talk to these thousands and thousands of radicals who share democratic values with us. I also want to speak to those who voted for another option, thinking about the need to have an Argentina in peace, with order”, he said in his campaign committee.

“I will make every effort for the next 30 days to gain your trust”, added the candidate, who will face Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza), in the second round, on November 19.

Still addressing all political sectors, he promised: “I will call for a government of national unity on December 10th as president. But a government built on the basis of summoning the best, regardless of their political strength”.

He also highlighted his growth at the polls in relation to the previous election, in August of this year. “We grew almost 15 points from the primaries to today. And for this reason, I want to thank the more than 8 million Argentines who placed their trust in us today.”

Massa also acknowledged that the country, under the government that launched him as a candidate and of which he is economy minister, has been leading the country, which is facing many difficulties, but promised to open a new era if he is elected.

“Our country is experiencing a complex, difficult situation, full of challenges and difficulties to face. From December 10th we will begin to build a new stage in Argentina’s political history.”

A candidate linked to Peronism and Kirchnerism, both left-wing political trends, Massa was still committed to the poorest part of the population.

“I know that many of those who voted for us are the ones who are suffering the most. I will not fail you. Please know that as president, since December 10th, I will not fail you.”

Massa also praised democracy in the country, which turns 40 now in 2023. “I want to thank the more than 25 million Argentines who went to vote, for any candidate.”

And it was part of the speech in opposition to Milei’s campaign promises: “I want to say that my commitment is to build more Argentina and more Argentina, not less. My commitment is to build more order, more security, and not improvise. My commitment is to build clear rules in the face of uncertainty.”
