A married mother of 4 children is the second teacher to lose her life at the Texas elementary school massacre where an 18-year-old died. Irma Garcia, 46, is another victim of Salvador Ramos, as she became known by her family and friends in the early hours of today.
Her colleague, 44-year-old Eva Mireles, was also killed by gunmen at Robb Elementary School in Ovalde, Texas.
The two women were killed in the incident, with the perpetrator also falling dead, after he had previously killed 19 small children.
Garcia taught for 23 years and was awarded as her teacher of the year by the relevant department of her city in 2019.
“My aunt did not succeed, she sacrificed herself by protecting the children in the classroom. “Please keep my family in her prayers,” her nephew wrote on Facebook.
“Irma Garcia is her name and she died a heroine, many loved her and we will miss her very much,” he added.
The second dead teacher, Eva Mireles, was specialized in the education of bilingual children and children with special needs. She taught children 9 to 10 years old, explained her cousin Christina Aricenti Mireles via Facebook. “My heart has become a thousand pieces,” he said.
She was married, had a daughter who graduated from college and “three fluffy friends”, according to her CV on the school’s website. Ruben Ruiz’s husband is a police officer, a member of the service ordered to investigate the massacre, according to Reuters and the Athens News Agency.
It is noted that the school, with the slogan “Live. Learn. Love. Lead “(Live. Learn. Love. Lead”, will remain closed today and tomorrow, the last days of the school year.
