Massive Attack guitarist dies of lung cancer

Massive Attack announced the death of their guitarist, Angelo Bruschinni, in a post on X. “RIP Angelo. A unique one brilliant and eccentric talent. It is impossible to quantify your contribution to Massive Attack. How lucky we were to have shared such a life together,” the band wrote in farewell to the guitarist, who at the age of 44 lost his battle with cancer.

Bruschinni was born in Bristol, England and was known for his unique guitar playing style, while since 1995 he has been the lead guitarist of Massive Attack. In July 2023, the artist announced that he was suffering from lung cancer. “Twice now I’ve been told ‘good luck’ by lung cancer specialists at the hospital. I think I stepped on it. I’ve had a wonderful life, I’ve seen the world too many times, I’ve met many wonderful people, but the door is closing, I’m thinking of writing a book,” he wrote on his personal Facebook profile.

Massive Attack was supposed to appear on the stage of Release Athens in July 2022, but the concert was canceled due to the illness of the guitarist. At the time, the band had canceled all the shows they were due to play in May, June and July – from Brussels and Paris to Primavera in Barcelona.
