Matthew Perry “would never have believed” how much the fans loved him. The actor of “Friends ” passed away a year ago due to acute effects of ketamine and his stepfather, Keith Morrison 77, told how the star felt she “had failed” in the years before her death, due to unflattering photos circulating.

He told People magazine: “There was a time when you picked up a tabloid and saw a photo of an overweight actor looking bad, walking down the street or going to a restaurant. And he, I think, felt that he had [falhado]”.

“He didn’t understand that he was loved — he would never have believed that,” he continued. The “17 Again” actor was surprised by the reaction to his 2022 autobiographical book, “Friends, Love, and That Terrible Thing: The Memoirs of the Friends Star,” in which he spoke candidly about his struggle with addiction.

Keith, who is married to Matthew’s mother Suzanne Morrison, commented: “He came back from the book tour and was still pinching himself, [dizendo] ‘I can’t believe that people actually seem to like me .’”

The 77-year-old presenter believes that one of the reasons Matthew was so candid in the book was because he wanted to make one more attempt to overcome his problems once and for all.

“He was brutally honest, and seemed to be at a point where he was finally over it. I think he put it in the book in a way that he expected to win. ‘Maybe if I say it publicly, if I say it in a book, if I’m reminded of it all the time, maybe I can do it,’” Keith explained. “He let it all out.”
