Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs, defended this Wednesday (25) an international action against the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon in recent days.
The Brazilian foreign minister said that “it is essential that the international community achieves the immediate interruption of these attacks, this aggression against the Lebanese people.”
Vieira added that the Brazilian government has been following the situation in Lebanon “with concern”.
“We are following with concern the worsening situation in Lebanon and the harsh impact that is being imposed not only on the Lebanese population but also on Brazilians living in the country,” said the foreign minister at a press conference in New York.
Vieira said that “Brazil has repeatedly condemned the Israeli airstrikes in the Beirut region, southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley and has renewed its call for this escalation to be contained.”
He said that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) “transmitted this concern in all contacts he had here in New York”.
“The Brazilian embassy in Beirut has been attentive and providing assistance and guidance to the Brazilian community, which is large and important, for several weeks, and has provided guidance on the services it can offer Brazilians during this period,” he said.
