The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, defended, during the UN Security Council meeting this Tuesday (24), the creation of the Palestinian State in the Middle East as a solution to end the conflicts between Israel and the radical Islamic group Hamas.
“There are many incidents escalating violence and leading to casualties. Seeking peace requires adherence to international law, as well as working towards a two-state solution,” said Vieira.
Presiding over the session, the Brazilian chancellor also condemned the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and stated that Israeli colonies in the territory compromise dialogue for peace in the region.
“As defined in this Council, the occupation of the West Bank is illegal and undermines peace efforts. Israel needs to end settlements in the Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem. The difference in treatment between people from settlements and locals is unacceptable”, declared the minister.
The speech is in line with what President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said during his weekly live “Conversa com o Presidente” this Tuesday.
“Every day we see that Israeli colonies invade Palestinian land and the UN does nothing, because the UN is weakened,” said Lula.
The head of the Executive asked that Israel and Palestine keep the territories demarcated for them at the UN and demanded more interference from the organization in resolving the conflict between Israel and the radical Islamic group Hamas.
“We need to ensure that there, in the Middle East, Israel keeps the territory that is its own and is demarcated by the UN and the Palestinians have the right to have their land, it’s as simple as that and there is no need for anyone to invade the no man’s land”, he defended.
