Max Payne is back. Remedy and Rockstar announce big remake

Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Max Payne, have officially announced that they will be remaking the iconic video games Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne as part of a new development deal with Rockstar Games. Both games have left an indelible mark on popular culture, becoming famous for their neo-noir atmosphere, innovative storytelling, and vibrant gunplay.

“We were thrilled when our longtime friends at Remedy asked us to remake the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. “We’re big fans of the work the Remedy team has been creating over the years and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of all Remedy employees, and we know millions of fans around the world feel the same way,” said Remedy CEO Tero Virtala. “We’re thrilled to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again to provide players with an opportunity to re-experience the story, action, and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games.”

Remedy will develop the remakes as a single game for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using their own Northlight game engine. The project will receive financial support from Rockstar Games and a typical Remedy AAA game budget.
