May preliminary consumer confidence records its best result since 2018

Preliminary Consumer Confidence for the euro zone stood at -5.1 in May, notably improving the -8.1 in April and the -6.8 expected by the market.

The data published by the Statistical Office of the European Commission remains negative since May 2018, although today’s figure marks the best result seen since November 2018.

The reasons for the improvement are the moderation of restrictions in a large part of the euro zone countries and the increase in the rate of vaccination in the region.
