The actress and singer Maya Hawke admitted to benefiting from nepotism throughout his career and seems to have already made peace with this issue.
Daughter of actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, Maya was asked, in an interview with The Times of the United Kingdom, if she thinks she deserves the recognition she has received from the industry: “Deserving is a complicated word. There are so many people who deserve to have this kind of life and don't, but I think I'm comfortable with not deserving it and doing it anyway.”
“And I know that not doing so wouldn’t help anyone. I saw two paths when I started, and one of them was: change my name, get a nose job and go to open auditions for casting positions”, said the “Stranger Things” actress.
Maya Hawke chose the other path, even though her parents' help to advance her career generates some comments and jokes.
“It's okay to be the butt of jokes when you're in such a privileged situation. It’s lucky to be like this,” she added. “My relationship with my parents is really honest and positive, and that supersedes anything anyone could say about it.”
Hawke also recalled how her father's influence may have helped land her a role in Quentin Tarantino's “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”: “I think I got it. [através do nepotismo] same.”
