Maye Musk, mother of Elon Musk, is the cover of the magazine “Sports Illustrated”

Your billionaire son may have dominated the headlines recently, but Maye Musk 74, is now in the spotlight after becoming the oldest model to appear on the cover of “Sports Illustrated”.

The model and nutritionist is one of the four stars of the cover of “SI Swimsuit 2022”, along with the star Kim Kardashian the singer Ciara and the musician and fashion entrepreneur Yumi Nu .

Maye is the mother of Tesla’s chief executive, Elon Musk restaurant owner Kimbal Musk and filmmaker Tosca Musk.

“If I thought I could be a swimsuit model for Sports Illustrated, people would have to lock me up like crazy,” Maye said with a laugh in a video released by the magazine. “And now, here I am.”

“I’m really excited for people to know that women in their 70s are beautiful,” she added.

MJ Day editor-in-chief of SI Swimsuit, defended the women chosen to appear on this cover.

“The journey we’ve been on – to break out of the mold the world has placed us in – may sound familiar. It’s certainly familiar to the women we’ve chosen to be our cover models: Maye, Ciara, Yumi, Kim,” Day said in a statement.

“At 74, Maye continues to work every day to inspire those around her.”

For the issue, Tosca Musk wrote about her “unstoppable” mother.

“In her years on this planet, she has earned two Masters in Nutrition Science, won awards in the field of dietetics, been in countless fashion shows and editorials, and even appeared in a Beyoncé video,” she wrote.

“She’s an unstoppable force, and she’s the most fearless woman I’ve ever met.”

“We all deserve the chance to evolve,” Day added in the press release.

“So, in this issue, we encourage readers to see these models as we see them: multifaceted, multitalented – and sexy while they’re at it. The world might label them one way, but we want to focus our lens on all the ways they see themselves and how they own who they are.”

The new issue hits newsstands on May 19.
