After the arrival of doses of the pediatric vaccine against Covid-19, some Brazilian states began immunization over the weekend. In the capital of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, the vaccination of children began this Saturday (15).
in interview at CNN, the mayor of the municipality, Gean Loureiro, said that “it was a great battle to prove the importance of vaccination in children”, and he intends to increase the rate of the immunized population in the capital.
“We have almost 88% of the entire population vaccinated and, now, with the vaccination of children, our goal is to be able to exceed 90% in the next few days, when we complete the full cycle of the second dose”, said Loreiro.
The mayor announced that Florianópolis will have an exclusive vaccination point for the age group from 5 to 11 years old, where parents can consult with pediatricians and specialists about the benefits of the vaccine and possible adverse effects.
“It will be a structure set up with monitoring, guiding parents, bringing information about the vaccine and presenting its benefits. So, any parent who has doubts can go there and clarify their doubts”, he said.
According to Gean Loureiro, Florianópolis vaccinated about a thousand children on the first day of vaccination. He said that, after performing the immunization of the group with comorbidities and disabilities, vaccination was opened for children aged 11 years who do not fit into the priority group.
