Mayor of Miami is ready to receive all salary in bitcoins

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced his readiness to become the first American politician to receive a salary in bitcoins.

Francis Suarez
wrote on Twitter, answering a question from Morgan Creek Digital Assets co-founder Anthony Pompliano: “The time has come. Who will be the first American politician to receive a salary in bitcoins? ”

Suarez took the initiative and declared that he was ready to become that person. Suarez added that he would prefer to use the Strike wallet or the services of Bitwage, a company that transfers wages in bitcoins, so that local authorities do not take unnecessary steps to convert fiat money into cryptocurrency.

Suarez has served as Mayor of Miami since 2017 and is considered a strong supporter of Bitcoin. Earlier, he announced his intention to turn Miami into the “capital of cryptocurrencies”, creating a favorable regulatory environment in the city for the development of the latest technologies and cryptocurrency startups. In February, Suarez offered to pay the salaries of municipal employees in bitcoin, as well as give city residents the opportunity to pay taxes in cryptocurrencies. At the same time, Suarez is interested in making Bitcoin mining more environmentally friendly, so he urged mining companies to move to Miami, where they can use solar energy to mine BTC.

Francis Suarez is not the only politician in the United States to support the adoption of cryptocurrencies. For example, in August, the mayor of Cool Valley, Missouri, Jayson Stewart, promised to give away 1,500 residents of the city for $ 1,000 in BTC, which they can spend only in five years. New York mayor candidate Eric Adams also intends to turn the city into a center for the development of the cryptocurrency industry.
