The mayor of Roca Sales, Amilton Fontana (MDB), classified the city in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul as “practically destroyed” and stated that around 15 people were trapped in the municipality.
The city located in Vale do Taquari is one of the most affected by the storms. In an official city hall publication, Fontana asks for help in assisting victims.
“Roca Sales is experiencing chaos. Roca Sales was practically destroyed again. Of the floods, this was the one that most destroyed the municipality. We can't go anywhere. We have to go by boat. The situation is very delicate, very difficult. We have great difficulty accessing the interior. […] We have around 15 people buried inside, I don't know if it's 15 or 16 people buried inside. This information was passed on by neighbors,” he said.
The mayor of Roca Sales also said that a crisis office is being set up in the city to serve the population. Firstly, Fontana reinforces the need for water, food and the provision of air support.
According to the mayor, the difficulty of access and the flood of the Taquari River make it difficult to rescue victims.
