Mayor who married teenager exonerates mother-in-law from secretary in PR city

The mayor of Araucária (PR), Hissam Hussein Dehaini, 65, dismissed his mother-in-law this Wednesday (26) as Secretary of Culture and Tourism in the municipality.

Hissam Hussein Dehaini had appointed Marilene Rode to the role the day after marrying her 16-year-old daughter. On social media, the case drew attention, and the mayor was the target of criticism.

According to the Official Journal of the Registry Offices of Brazil, the mayor and the teenager presented the necessary documents and filed for the civil marriage license on April 12.

Brazilian legislation allows minors from 16 years of age to marry, provided they have the legal permission of those responsible.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paraná reported that there are ongoing proceedings on the case. The information regarding the facts is confidential because it involves a teenager.
